Legends of the Animals of The Spanish Armada
Friday 25th November at 7.30pm
In 1588 a large naval fleet from Spain set off to invade the Island of Britain but it was opposed and scattered by the English navy and battered by storms as its ships tried to return to port. Tales are told of horses, dogs, cats, and even sheep swimming ashore from the sinking ships of the Armada to establish descendants in the British Isles, giving these animal survivors legendary status. This informative and entertaining talk, by Dr. Gale Pettifer, explores the events surrounding the Spanish Armada and examines the evidence for any animal survivors. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session. Bar available.
